David has worked in the energy recovery business for over 27 years. He has been instrumental in bringing advanced gasification technology to the fore in the UK. His experience spans many roles in the sector, including working as a consultant on energy recovery from waste, an EPC contractor on the construction of renewable energy facilities and as operations director overseeing multiple renewable energy facilities.
As Chairman, David maintains oversight of the business and assists wherever his invaluable experience is needed. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management and The Society for the Environment.
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
Ian is a serial entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in a variety of businesses and sectors. His ability to integrate innovative funding solutions with complex engineering solutions is well suited to the complex world of advanced gasification project development.
Ian takes the lead on identifying new opportunities, working closely with our trusted technology, EPC, O&M and corporate partners. His insight and integrated approach ensure that CoGen remains leader in our field.
With significant experience in the contracting, construction and energy from waste sectors, Ian joined CoGen in 2016, having been Operations Director for MWH Treatment who were the EPC and O&M contractor for our Birmingham and Welland projects; it was Ian who negotiated those contracts with CoGen on behalf of MWH Treatment.
Ian’s experience strengthens the project development and project delivery capabilities of CoGen. As well as carrying out the role of Managing Director, Ian overseas both the operational and project management arms of our business.
Rick has over 20 years’ experience at director level combined with significant project management, financial management and outsourcing skills and experience. Initially this was at Grant Thornton then as a Corporate Finance Partner and subsequently as Finance Director and CFO across multiple business interests. Rick provides financial leadership and guidance to the business and board of CoGen as well as the project subsidiary companies.
Rick is a chartered accountant and fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Mark is one of CoGen’s original team members and is responsible for engineering design work on both operational and in-development projects. Mark plays an active role in the development of a purchaser’s requirement documents, EPC and O&M contracts, grid connections and interface with distribution network operators, as well as in the design (including the development of mechanical enhancements), cost analysis and contractor interface on all our projects.
Research & Development Director
Des has been at the heart of advanced gasification for over 25 years. With unparalleled knowledge of the UK energy from waste environmental legislation, Des leads on our internal technical due diligence. He handles all planning and permitting applications, controlling and continuing to educate all who meet him within the industry.
Des works closely with the environmental agency to ensure our facilities sit fully within the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) regulations.
Hannah has seven years’ experience in the renewable energy sector and is primarily responsible for Renewable Obligation accreditation at our 4 ACT ROC claimant generating stations. She specialises in IED environmental permit compliance, integrated management systems and the Renewables Obligation Certification.
Project Development Manager
Maciek is a highly experienced commercial originator and project development manager who has delivered high value transactions and projects in the fuels, carbon and renewable energy markets for almost 20 years. With experience of large energy multinationals as well as niche market ventures, Maciek has delivered innovative projects across a number of markets in the UK and Eastern Europe, including one of the last strategic domestic coal supply agreements as well as energy crop plantation developments in Poland and Romania.
At CoGen, Maciek’s focus is identifying and securing new project opportunities to help deliver our project pipeline, managing the projects through the entire development lifecycle to their financial close.
Project Development Manager
Isabella has extensive experience in supply chain management and leading commercial negotiations and development in the renewable energy sector including large-scale solar and energy recovery projects. She has successfully implemented complex and innovative projects spanning community energy, environmental programmes in global food manufacturing and an engagement platform focusing on innovation for sustainable development.
At CoGen, Isabella is responsible for developing and managing waste gasification projects and played a key role in developing our Hooton Bio Power facility through to financial close.
Project Development Manager
Pete has 20 years’ experience in successfully designing and delivering large scale projects (up to £1.5bn investment) and driving business performance. Pete led the largest offshore renewable energy project, Round 3 Offshore, globally, delivered award winning IT systems and is currently active in the decarbonisation and decentralisation of UK energy generation.
As CoGen, Pete is focused on helping us to create a pipeline of energy recovery projects that will deliver sustainable energy generation and reduce the carbon footprint of our waste for the coming decades.
INTERNATIONAL Development Manager
St.John joined CoGen in January 2019 to help evaluate and develop new Energy from Waste projects in the UK and overseas. St.John has over 13 years of policy and commercial experience across the energy sector, working across Western Europe, Middle East and the BRICs.
Prior to CoGen, he was part of the M&A team at the accountancy and advisory firm BDO where he led on fundraising and structuring of energy projects across a variety of technologies, including energy storage, biomass and waste to energy projects, providing advice to clients across the low carbon sector.
Prior to BDO he worked extensively across economic development, innovation, energy and climate issues for the UK Government, including leading DECC’s work on renewable energy technologies internationally and helping to develop DECC’s 2012 Bioenergy Strategy.
