Gasification is an advanced thermal treatment technology which recovers energy from waste feedstock. It is not a form of incineration; instead it heats feedstock with less oxygen than traditional combustion methods, and in doing so reduces carbon emissions.
The preferred EfW technique
Gasification projects are received more favourably than those using conventional combustion technology, with the process being classified by the Environment Agency as ‘Best Available Technique’.
The way forward
Gasification is gaining traction as the preferred process in the renewable energy sector, with more stringent environmental regulations and volatile oil and natural gas prices contributing to the growing interest in the technology.
Kobelco’s gasification technology will be installed at our Hooton Park facility, currently in construction in Cheshire.
