David Pike has been involved in the waste to energy business for over twenty-five years. As a highly experienced engineer, David has worked within all aspects of the waste to energy business; from working as a consultant on energy recovery, an EPC Contractor building waste to energy facilities, and as an operations director operating multiple waste to energy facilities. Combining both David’s experience and entrepreneurial’spirit, this has ensured that in setting up CoGen as a lead developer of waste to energy facilities within the UK, he had of all the tools needed in pulling complex projects together.
David’s dogged determination and can do attitude has meant that CoGen has succeeded where many did not and has grown in becoming the leading developer of Advanced Gasification plants within the UK.
Chief Executive Officer
Ian is a serial ‘entrepreneur’ whose been involved in numerous businesses over the last twenty-five years. His analytical and problem solving abilities are extremely well suited to the complex world of Advanced Gasification project development. His ability to integrate innovative funding solutions with complex engineering solutions has ensured that CoGen remains leader in their field. Ian takes the lead on looking for new opportunities and working constantly with our various partners ensuring CoGen’s continuous growth.
Ian has extensive knowledge of the CoGen business having sat opposite CoGen during contract negotiation meetings in his role as Operations and Development Director for MWH Treatment Ltd (MWH Treatment) as CoGens Engineering, Procurement and Construction (“EPC”) contractor. Ian was identified as the preferred choice as a replacement for David, not only for his knowledge but also as he is known and respected in the industry and the CoGen team.
Desmond James Mitchell
Research & Development Director
Des Mitchell has been at the heart of Advanced Gasification for over twenty-five years. With unparalleled knowledge of the UK waste to energy environmental legislation, Des leads on our internal technical due diligence. He handles all of our planning and permitting applications, controlling and continuing to educate all who meet him within this industry. Des works closely with the environmental agency to ensure all of our facilities sit fully within the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) regulations.
Mark Degg is an experienced engineer who has focused the last eight years on the design and deployment of Advanced Gasification technologies. His ability to ensure initial designs take into account all future operational hurdles, means he is a key asset in the development of projects. Mark works closely with our EPC and O&M contractors ensuring they comply with their contracts, thus ensuring our plants meet their required outputs.
Project Development Manager
Maciek is an experienced renewable energy and multi commodity business development manager with extensive knowledge of transaction origination and project delivery in the renewables market. Coming to Cogen with utility, fund and commodity trading experience Maciek focuses on the commercial aspect of project origination, development and delivery through to financial close, and management of the contractual arrangements with funders, contractors, service providers and suppliers.
With 28 years’ experience Chris is a Chartered Engineer with experience of many waste process systems including those for recyclate recovery, anaerobic digestion, sludge pasteurisation, sewage treatment and waste gasification (wood waste and RDF). Combining with this technical background, Chris has extensive contract negotiation and project management experience, complimented by various management qualifications including an MBA from Henley Business School. Chris enthusiastically brings this blend of skills to Cogen’s Advanced Gasification business, to ensure that projects are delivered on time and in accordance with financial modelling and that existing project data is fed back to new project models.
Andy Carling is an experienced project manager working within the energy sector for 29 years specialising in the combined heat and power, biomass and energy from waste sectors. A pioneer in the large-scale biomass sector and project/portfolio manager for the successful delivery of a number of high value £100m-£300m projects. His knowledge and experience span across the project life cycle from development through construction to the early stages of operation and maintenance; and include international experience in both development and construction of complex biomass projects across Europe. Andy brings a wealth of experience to working with EPC and OM Contractors to drive CoGen projects to a successful completion.
Hannah has seven years of experience in the energy-from-waste industry. She is responsible for achieving and maintaining ROCs accreditation for the UKs four current ROC claimant generating stations. Hannah also specialises in: IED environmental permit compliance, ensuring facilities meet their extensive pre-operational, start-up and improvement conditions; and ISO 14001 and 9001 accredited integrated management systems.
